We’ve all seen the adverts for the Tunarama, but there is truly nothing that compares to tossing a Carp. The Copi Carparama is turning into an event which is now looked forward to on the yearly calendar by many of our members with a record number of people attending.
Being that this is only the second Carparama held at Copi Hollow its fair to say that its easy to break the record of attendance but when you hear that people who attended had planned their attendance and last year had not really thought about it before it came up you begin to realize that this event can and will grow to become very popular.
The idea for the Carparama came from Felix Pace. Felix came up with the idea from the (you guessed it Tunarama). Margaret encouraged Felix to go with his idea and so it was born, “The Copi Carparama”.
This years event had fun and games in addition to the Carp tossing competition. The games started off with the Keg Rolling races and after participating myself, I’ve come to realize that keg rolling is not as easy as it looks nor is it the most graceful of games.
A couple of brave men got up, kegs in hand ready to start the race…a photo was taken and the race was over…gee in my rush to take a photo I must have missed the race?
Up went the kiddies eager to get hold of a keg and roll it along as fast as their little legs would allow.
The keg rolling competition went from the littlies to the littlies at heart, whom honestly competed in the same style as the actual littlies….close to the ground and on it…The Keg Rolling Comp was great fun and something to (practice for) I mean look forward to at next years Carparama.
Of course at Copi Hollow we pride ourselves on our commitment to honesty and fairness during our competitions…Oh well, I did say we have a commitment to it not that we actually practice it…hahaha, I did see a disgraced keg carrier and another who grabbed someone else’s keg *ahem* but joking aside its all in the name of fun.
Talking of fun, watching people fall over their kegs was also really amusing!!
Then the Carp Tossing Competition took place, there were many different categories including age groups in men’s women’s and children, and open men’s, boy’s, women’s and girls.
During the comp Mat Bromson took his carp, set himself up for a huge toss, then let go of the bag…he then had a horrified look on his face as he realized his bag (with smelly, defrosting Carp enclosed) was headed straight for the crowd of onlookers. It was almost in slow motion watching the bag make its way into the crowd. The onlookers all scattered as quickly as they could and luckily no one was hit (very close) the bag came down and hit the ground without turning someone into a smelly carp covered onlooker.
The officials were out, tape measure in hand giving the results of each throw to Sue Liddell while Rickie Cooper acted as coordinator of the events as they happened.
After the keg rolling and the carp tossing was over the members entered the club rooms and were greeted by amazing smells! Felix Pace in his cute pink shirt was whipping up a storm that was described in the flyers as a sausage sizzle (it was the best sausage sizzle I’ve ever been to), there was lasagna, spaghetti bolognaise, sausage curry and rice, Sheppard’s pie, the famous sausage, dim sims, spring rolls, nuggets, chips, bread rolls and other yummy stuff!
Rickie Cooper, Dennis Hebbard and Peter Spratt ran the bar while Jamie Liddell and Dean Pinnuck played our favorite tunes. One particular favorite of the night was the theme song to Felix the Cat.
After dinner the prize winners were announced and prizes were given out. I haven’t included the winners of the competitions (I don’t have a Ski Rope big enough to do that). However this years Copi Carparama King and Queen was awarded to Peter and Maz Pressler. Peter and Maz were involved in all the areas of the Carparama, without their help the Carparama wouldn’t have been as successful as it was! Congratulations!
To add to that making the Copi Carparama such a successful event wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of our sponsors.
