2011 Speedboat Club Xmas Party
You better watch out, you better not cry, you better shout out, I’m telling you why;
Santa Clause has been to Copi Hollow.
He came on a boat, ringing his bell, waving to the children with a ho ho ho;
Santa Clause has been to Copi Hollow.
He came bearing gifts for the children, and some chocolates for the ladies too, he jumped from the boat to the shore with a leap as he sang a happy tune.
Oh
You better watch out, you better not cry, you better shout out I’m telling you why;
Santa Clause has been to Copi Hollow.
Oh oh
Santa Clause has been to Copi Hollow.
Oh oh
Santa Clause has been to….Copi Hollow.
Excited children heard the ringing of Santa’s Bell from the banks and came running towards the shore to get their first glimpse of Santa. Santa came to Copi by boat which is the customary way for the Broken Hill Speedboat Club’s Christmas functions.
Santa then started to make his way to the shore from the boat and had to take a flying leap to get there….everybody on the shore waited with bated breadth to see if Santa would make it this year without getting wet and much to Santa’s relief, he did!
After a little help getting up to the bank Santa made his way into the club house to take his special seat next to the Christmas Tree and fire place which was surrounded with presents. Christmas carols were played softly in the background and the club rooms glittered with Christmas decorations .
The excited children all seated themselves around Santa (some giving him an extra wide space) because not all the kiddies are convinced that the big fat man in a red suit is not scary.
One by one the children’s names were called out to come up and receive their present from Santa. Some of the children were happy to take their present while others took it an arms distance with as few words spoken as possible, then they re-took their seat to open their presents with excitement in their eyes.
I do believe that there was not an unhappy face once Santa was a good arms distance away and the present was opened.
As is tradition for the Broken Hill Speedboat Club the women of the club were called upon to receive a gift of chocolates from Santa. But it is not that easy to receive it, you first have to sit on Santa’s knee, I thought as you grew you were supposed to have outgrown your fear of Santa but some were still to afraid to sit on Santa’s knee.
Some of the men of the club (feeling a little left out) decided that they would be more then happy to sit on Santa’s knee if it meant getting a box of chocolates.
The bar was opened for the enjoyment of the members and their guests for the duration of the night and dinner was served.
Unfortunately Santa’s job was done and he had to leave to tend to his many other Christmas errands. Santa’s bell once again rang out as Santa waved goodbye (until he comes again Christmas Eve when all the kiddies are tucked up in bed). The kids all looked up from their gifts to wave furiously to Santa to farewell him with anticipation of maybe catching a glimpse of him on Christmas Eve and excited about the thought of Christmas Day.
The Christmas party held lots of surprises from the weather, one minute it was a glorious day and many were out boating and or simply enjoying the warmth of the day and then the evening turned to high winds with storms, sudden pouring rain and then the most glorious rainbows colored the sky.
The committee and members and especially the children would like to thank Santa for visiting us this year and invite Santa back to Copi Hollow for Christmas in 2012.
The committee would also like to thank the organisers and helpers of this event, (it takes a lot of background organization, which takes a lot of time and effort) it was a fantastic night with good food and great company!
